I wouldn't order a steak here again based on my meal and the fact that there were gaps of time when no one was available to help me at my table. I'm assuming people come here for the cocktails and burgers. I don't want to be rude by leaving this place 3 stars but I can't give this restaurant a 5 either. I thought this would be a fine dining experience but it wasn't. My server was sweet but not having basic items like a napkin, knife and fork is bizarre. Next time I'd like to try dining inside at Maple and Ash just for the dessert menu because there are items available at the other restaurant that aren't offered at Eight bar. I'm grateful I got an opportunity to enjoy being outside this beautiful evening but I was disappointed with my meal. I'm not letting this slide because I'm used to going out to eat where the servers share the responsibility of helping all guests even guests that they aren't waiting on. My waitress disappeared for a while so I tried getting the attention of this male waiter so I could have some salt and pepper but he ignored me, worked on his own tables and acted like I was invisible. When another guest was seated a different server grabbed the pitcher of water off my table that I had requested earlier and was going to give it to the new guest so I had to ask this guy to please return it to my table. My waitress was very helpful and left me a pitcher of water with lemons but I noticed that when my steak arrived I wasn't offered a napkin or cutlery so i grabbed some for myself from another table nearby. I honestly didn't feel my meal was worth the price simply because I wasn't offered bread even though I asked for it. My fries were well portioned and generously sized but definitely lacked salt. The steak had a heavy sauce around it which I didn't exactly care for because it was a bit on the salty side. I ordered the steak dinner with fries and thought it was pretty good but lacked seasoning. We took his card and promised to return for my wife's birthday in December and our anniversary in April-if not sooner.I'm giving this place a solid 4 not necessarily because my evening went flawlessly.because it didn't but because the staff for the most part did try to help. The evening wouldn't have been as much fun without him. Daniel Forsythe, our energetic and personable waiter, acted more like an impresario.suggesting, recommending, cajoling, describing, directing and serving. It is surrounded by two smaller dining rooms, a large bar and lounge and two-Michelin star chef Danny Grant's large open kitchen with a wood-fired hearth. We were seated in the large main dining room with a 30-foot-high ceiling. Maple & Ash is the most elegant, posh, swanky, luxurious restaurant we have ever experienced. You couldn't ask for a better birthday present than that. For dessert, we shared a large slice of coconut cream pie with a candle on top. Specialties: Maple & Ash is an innovative take on the traditional steakhouse - mixing a modern aesthetic with authentic service to deliver classic wood-fired dishes. I couldn't resist the Branzino with shrimp cocktail and Yukon Gold Gratin potatoes. What'll you have? Salmon or Branzino or Alaskan Halibut or Dover Sole? My wife chose the Dover Sole with sweet corn. Maple & Ash's seafood menu is outstanding. Instead of ordering filet mignon or ribeye, however, we opted to stick to our more fish/less meat diet. 1 steakhouse in the city, one of the best in the country. My wife and I always celebrate our birthdays and wedding anniversary by dining at one of Chicago's finest restaurants.
